Confession Time

They say procrastination is the thief of time and I know this first hand. I had the audit part of the CPA exam scheduled for August and that never happened. I have been pushing this exam more than I would like to admit. I was never ready, the reason being, my procrastinating ways. I studied hard one week and took it easy the following. I know the amount of time I need to invest to pass this exam but until Monday (08/27/2012) I really didn't take it seriously. I toyed with the idea of quitting. After all, its my nature to just give up because I dont feel like doing something anymore. After Monday, I told myself I would give this exam all I have and see what happens. I will also admit that seeing Gina (missginacpa.blogspot.com) pass BEC after three weeks of hardcore studying I had my wakeup call.

I sat down and re-evaluated why I wanted to be a CPA.
  • Being a CPA will open doors to so many different opportunities.
  • I would have the potential of making a lot of money (I dont know about you, but $$$ is one of my greatest motivators).
  • Bragging rights of being a CPA.
  • Carrot cake from Rosie (she only bakes for CPAs).
With that being sad, I am now back to serious studying. Really and truly studying. I am planning on continuing with audit and taking it October 5th. I was having trouble getting motivated and I finally figured out how I learn the material best. A studying method that has been posted multiple times by Jeff at another71.com and posted on a blog I frequent twice a day (noircpa.com) but yet I never really took the time to try. One of my problem areas was that I switched materials just about as much as I switch underwear. I have Yeager, Roger, CPAExcel, and Becker. I went from one to the other each week. The extent I went to waste time and not commit  to one is beyond belief. I have finally decided to stick with CPAExcel and am currently watching the lectures, pausing each second and taking notes. My hand hurts after three hours of taking down notes each day, however, the material is actually sticking. I have a four day weekend because of labor day and plan on having all the lectures done by Monday. Once I am done, I plan on rewriting my notes and working on the CPAExcel homework questions. There are 1,105 total MCQs and I plan on being done with them in a week. I am transitioning between jobs and don't really have much to do at my current position, so, I have been utilizing the down time with studying. During the day I work through the questions in study mode so I can see the explanations on the ones I get wrong. Once I am done with that I will work the Wiley online testbank questionss till exam day and rewrite my notes where needed. This is definitely overdoing it but I need a 75 and shall leave no stone unturned.

I finally got my mojo back and ready to take on the CPA Exam. I got this....

  1. Sounds like you have a good game plan set up. Writing out everything can be overwhelming and is very time consuming but soooo worth it! You can do it Bev!!
