Going After What I Want...

So, last year when I interviewed with one of the Big 4 it was for an internal audit position. However, before they could make the offer they were told to eliminate the position (see previous post). Well, I got a referral and am now working with Policy and Compliance for said firm. Its really not what I expected it to be and I am not too crazy about it. I just decided to suck it up and put in my year and then transfer to something else. This position would definitely be ideal for me studying for the cpa exam. Well, at exactly my one month anniversay I walked by the job board and saw that the job I originally interviewed for was open again. I started thinking about possibly transferring to that group, afterall, I had only been with the firm a month and the group I was currently working had not invested that much time in training me. Like most places the rule was I had to be within my current position for a year prior to transferring to another position. The best advice I ever got from a friend was that every person should have that group of people that you would consider your "board of directors". The people you turn to for advice that you know will not just tell you what you want to hear but actually give you solid advice. Part of my board is one my really good friends [Teach], Rose (#twudygroup popo), and Sassy (another #twudygroup friend). I have never met Rose or Sassy but they have always given me good advice and encouraged me to go after what I want in life. I decided to call the Director I originally interviewed with and asked about the potential of them hiring me. He went on to tell me that when the job opened he asked HR to reach out to me but they told him that I was already working for the firm. So he just let it go. They had told him that in order for any mobility to happen I had to be in my current position for 6 months to a year. I thanked him for taking the time to give me his honest opinion on whether or not I could transfer and decided not to pursue it. Well, the next day he calls and tells me to talk to HR and express interest. I went ahead and did that and once again HR shut me down. A few hours later the HR lady calls me and asks to meet with me. Well, the Director spoke to the HR manager and he agreed to let me transfer but "I" had to go talk to my senior manager and get approval. The Director was told not to reach out and I had to do it on my own.As I walked out of my meeting with HR she yelled "Be careful what you wish for". Way to boost my confidence, I said to myself. Three days of thinking, phone calls with [Teach], emails to Sassy, and text messages to Rose,I finally mustered up the courage and went and talked to my manager who later talked to my senior manager.I told my boss that my passion was in internal audit and I would respect whatever decision they made but I did not want to regret not asking to be transferred. I poske to the Director a few weeks ago just to touch base and make sure they had not changed their minds. I mean, I dont have the best history with them and he told me that my transfer had been approved and stated that they were making sure that they would be allowed to replace me. My favorite line from him was "They are sad to see let you go but we did find you first" I always new I was rockstar :) Anyway, today, I finally got the official call from  my manager and in two months, at the latest, I am being released to follow my true passion and get the exposure I need within the firm to figure out what my next move will be. If someone would have told me a year ago that I would be making ballsy moves like this I would have laughed in their face. Now my next focus is on passing the cpa exam. I have no excuses...
